Tenerife Zuid
The most attractive side of Tenerife for tourists is the south, where the climate is warmer and drier, partly due to the protective volcano Teide. Here are the coastal areas oriented to the southeast and southwest. The low rainfall creates a desert-like environment, where the lush vegetation of the north changes into typical vegetation such as rare succulents, for example the 'tabaibal-cardonai'. The south of the island is a modern tourist zone: clouds are rare. Thanks to the high mountains, which actually form a barrier, the sky on the south coast remains completely clear when it is cloudy in the north, so that you can enjoy the sun and the beach almost every day of the year. The largest range of tourist accommodation can be found here. Well-known are the urbanizations of Playa de Las Américas, Los Cristianos and other smaller ones including Los Gigantes with its spectacular location at the foot of the cliffs of the same name.

Moonscape (moon landscape)
The site gets its name from the beautiful white, eroded pumice cones that take on a golden glow in the sun. The walk to the Paisaje lunar is a popular excursion from Vilaflor (14 km). To get there, follow the road to Teide, towards ‘Madre del Agua’. The road is easy to walk and offers beautiful views over Vilaflor and the south coast.

San Miguel de Abona
Another place where you won't find the big crowds is San Miguel de Abona. And yet, here too, the beaches and seaside resorts are not far away. Until recently, you could only find the Casas de Piedra to stay in, but a brand new luxury hotel has just opened near the mighty volcanic landscape of the San Blas nature reserve. On the coast, you can not only enjoy the sun, but also participate in all kinds of activities that have to do with nature, such as walks, trekking, orienteering, climbing and mountain biking. Windsurfers move further to El Medano with its long sandy beaches where there is always a strong wind. Here you will mainly find Spanish families.

Los Roques de Garcia and Llano de Ucanca
Just below the Pico del Teide are the Roques de Garcìa, a collection of bizarre rock formations created by erosion of solidified magma flows. The most photographed is the Roque Chinchado, or the Finger of God. Since it erodes much faster at the base than at the top, it will one day fall over, so maybe you shouldn't get too close. From Los Roques you have a beautiful view over the vast lava lake Llano de Ucanca and La Catedral. It will come as no surprise that this desolate lava landscape has served as a backdrop for several science fiction films. Planet of the Apes was filmed here, among others! To explore the area, it is best to take the two-hour walk no. 3, which runs in a wide circle around Los Roques. The start of the walk is an almost paved road, but soon becomes heavenly beautiful. The landscape, which shows the colorful traces of centuries of volcanic eruptions, is constantly changing.

The Cristianos
Although this town is now right next to Playa de Las Américas, Los Cristianos has managed to retain its own identity: the town was built around an old coastal town. On the bay lies a lovely beach with a busy harbour offering all kinds of facilities for practising water sports. From the harbour of Los Cristianos, ships depart daily for the islands of La Gomera and El Hierro. Various sea excursions are also offered on the quay and you can, for example, observe the colony of pilot whales that live in the strait between Tenerife and La Gomera.

Dolphin excursions
Every day you can embark on a dolphin excursion from the seaside resorts in the south of the island. The strait between La Gomera and western Tenerife is the habitat of no fewer than 25 species of whales and is therefore one of the best places in the world to spot these fascinating animals. During such a boat trip, you have the greatest chance of seeing bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales jumping out of the water, but sperm whales and beluga whales are also regularly spotted. Sometimes you have to be patient to see the animals, but the memory you will have of such an excursion is unforgettable! Always make sure that you board a boat with the 'Barco Azul' flag. This way you can be sure that the Canarian legislation regarding the protection of whales and dolphins is respected.

The Medano
The beach in El Medano is one of the best and most extensive beaches on the island, is an ideal place for windsurfers. Due to its south-westerly location, a constant trade wind blows here. El Medano is a pleasant village near the Montaña Roja. There is a young mentality here, partly due to the presence of many surfers as well as the offer of all kinds of activities in the village centre. In the centre of El Medano there are many good restaurants, bars and shops. The village square is teeming with activity in the summer: tourists but also the local population come together here to cool off after a hot summer day on the many terraces or to just sit on a bench and enjoy the sea breeze. The sandy beach of El Medano is a favourite seaside resort for young and old. El Medano is also the Mecca for surfers and it is not without reason that the European surfing championships are held here. Here you can stroll pleasantly along the promenade, kilometers long to the beach of Tejita or to the fishing village Los Abrigos. El Medano has a special style and that makes it so authentic!

The Giants
This urbanisation stretches out at the foot of the impressive cliffs of Los Gigantes – with an average height of 500 metres – thirty kilometres northwest of Playa de Las Américas. Los Gigantes is less busy than Las Américas and Los Cristianos and has first-class hotels with a marina, beautiful views of the sea and the cliffs and a beautiful volcanic sandy beach. Not far away is another tourist enclave, Puerto Santiago, with the beach La Arena and a varied range of restaurants. The Acantilados de los Gigantes, or the Giant Cliffs, are gigantic rock formations that rise up to 600 metres out of the ocean. The best view of these cliffs of the Teno Mountains is from the sea. Highly recommended, also because dolphins, whales and sea turtles can be found here. Boat trips along the cliffs leave from the harbour of Los Gigantes. You also have an excellent view from the tiny lava beach of Playa de los Gigantes. The rocks of Los Gigantes are also a fantastic place for divers. The gorges, which are more than 30 metres deep, offer an ideal hiding place for underwater fauna and flora and are of exceptional scientific value.

Playa de Las Americas
Playa de Las Américas is one of the most important tourist cities of Tenerife and is located in the municipality of Arona, on a south coast dotted with small beaches. A beautiful sea promenade runs along it. Here you can find everything: shops, bars, restaurants, etc. In the evening there is a lively atmosphere in the streets, with numerous entertainment venues: pubs, discos, theatres and a casino. Playa de Las Américas also has a marina, Puerto Colon. This marina also has a wide range of water attractions. Water sports enthusiasts will not be bored. The water park Octopus (water park Costa Adeje), in San Eugenio Alto, is also a fun day out. You can also play golf on the beautiful Golf Course Las Américas. A nice hotel in Playa de Las Americas is the Hesperia Troya hotel.

The largest water park in Europe
Tenerife is home to the largest water park in Europe: Siam Park, a spectacular attraction in Adeje, in the south of the island. Siam Park refers to Thailand, and that is no coincidence. The buildings look Thai, the attraction where you ride a four-person tube almost upside down looks like a dragon. And the shops are located on the floating market, just like in Bangkok. On the artificial sandy beach you can surf on an artificial wave. It is certainly spectacular, such as a 25-metre slide, where you reach a speed of 40 km per hour and zoom through a transparent tube between 13,000 tropical fish and even a shark. Children can enjoy themselves in a beautiful ‘forbidden city’, on a climbing frame where a jet of water seems to come from every step or wall. Every two minutes a large bucket of water in the shape of a monkey head is emptied.

Mansion de Sitio Litre
This British residence from 1730 is one of the oldest buildings on Tenerife. The house received many personalities and the garden was often the scene of parties. Agatha Christie wrote ‘The mysterious Mr Quin’ here and William Wilde, father of Oscar, also came to visit. The most famous guest was probably Winston Churchill who came here in 1959 to enjoy a well-deserved holiday. The hacienda is still privately owned but the 220 year old gardens can be visited. Not to be missed is the beautiful collection of orchids.

Amarilla Golf
The village of Amarilla Golf is located on the southern tip of Tenerife, just a few minutes drive from the main tourist beaches of Los Cristianos and Las Americas. And close to Tenerife Sur airport. Contrary to popular belief, aircraft noise is only limited to the flight path close to the airport. Amarilla Golf is ideal for couples or families looking for a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle of Las Americas or Los Cristianos. It is located right on the Atlantic coast and has a quiet, relaxed village atmosphere. The area is surrounded by beautiful scenery, restaurants, bars and entertainment. The marina is one of the largest in the south and has experienced explosive growth since 2014. The marina even has a Belgian submarine that allows you to take a trip to the underwater world of Tenerife even if you are not a diver. In addition, there are many water sports available, including sailing, jet skiing, motor boating, scuba diving, snorkelling and deep sea fishing. In addition to the water sports, you have two enormous golf courses, one of which has 18 holes where you can practice your sport to your heart's content for days. Amarilla Golf has a very good tourist infrastructure. The accessibility to Los Cristianos and Las Americas is also optimal with 12 shuttle buses daily. It offers a small beach and a famous 18-hole golf course. Horse riding with a view of the sea and nature! The Pura Vida Riding School, formally known as Rancho Grande, is located just one kilometer from Amarilla Golf. The nice thing about Pura Vida is that they are fully geared to the general public. From children, adults to people with a mental and physical disability. Outside the marina, Amarilla Golf is experiencing an explosive growth of new residents, winterers and those who purchase a holiday home. Many are now discovering the value of Amarilla Golf and this thanks to its location and the favorable real estate prices in contrast to the neighboring large seaside resorts. The municipality of San Miguel de Abona is currently working on a project to bring a sandy beach from the Sahara between Golf Del Sur and Los Abrigos. Flowering plants, subtropical palm trees, green golf courses contrast with the arid landscape and the bright blue color of the sea… Here you will find everything for an unforgettable holiday, but in a quieter and relaxed atmosphere.
